Tucked away in the heart of Soho, beneath the quiet hum of May 8th’s twilight, an otherworldly scene unfolded within the Thin White Duke. Passersby paused to peer in – drawn to the spectacle forming just beyond the window. From street to bar, a floral dreamscape had taken root, transforming the venue into a shadowy forest fit for myth and magic.
To mark the launch of Maria Nilsdotter’s new jewellery collection What the Wood Whispers – a tribute to the elusive forest spirit of Scandinavian folklore, the Huldra – Wild at Heart conjured a pair of truly spellbinding floral installations. Designed to echo the collection’s dark mystique and wild elegance, the arrangements embodied a haunting beauty, as if plucked from the very woods that inspired the jewels.
Large, sculptural tree branches formed the foundations of these untamed creations. They reached outward and upward; rich, velvety shades of dark purple flowers nestled into the crooks and hollows of the branches, their moody hues a perfect match for the spellbinding gemstones (peridot, garnet, and moonstone) featured in Nilsdotter’s collection.
Vibrant green foliage spilled over and interspersed among these were maroon-tinted leaves, their smoky tones lending depth and contrast.
One arrangement crept elegantly along the front window, drawing the eyes of onlookers into the space acting as an invitation to step inside. The second snaked its way across the bar, turning cocktails and conversation into something altogether more magical. Together, they transformed the venue into an enchanted space where nature, craft, and myth became entwined.
