  • Trim the Stems & Remove Leaves

Use sharp pruners or scissors to recut all stems at a steep angle before arranging them in a clean vase. Cutting on the diagonal maximises the stem's ability to absorb water.

Remove any leaves that will be below the waterline in your vase. This prevents bacterial growth.

    Water and Vase Care

Use a clean vase to reduce the risk of bacteria affecting the flowers. Fill the vase with room temperature water.

We recommend adding a Milton sterilising tablet to help kill bacteria in the water and make your flowers last longer.

  • Placement and Environment

Place the vase in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Excessive heat can cause the flowers to wilt quickly.

Keep away from ripening fruits. Fruits like apples release ethylene gas, which can shorten the lifespan of your flowers.

Ensure good air circulation but avoid placing the flowers in a drafty area.

  • Ongoing Care

Every 2-3 days, dump out the old water completely and recut 1/2 - 1 inch from the bottom of each hydrangea stem before refilling the vase with fresh preservative solution. This ensures continual access to fresh water and nourishment.

Remove any wilted flowers promptly to prevent them from affecting the healthy ones.

    Reviving Wilted Dahlias

If the dahlias begin to wilt, re-cut the stems and place them in fresh water. You can also try submerging the entire flower (stem and bloom) in room temperature water for about 30 minutes to revive them.

With proper care following these guidelines, you can expect to enjoy your dahlias for around 5-7 days before they begin to noticeably decline and fade.
