The World of Wild at Heart Meets Head Florist Robyn

Based in the heart of Notting Hill. Nikki Tibbles Wild at Heart’s Turquoise Island has become a local institution with listed status. The famous turquoise brick is a favourite backdrop for many bloggers and influencers, with the location as colourful and vibrant as the luxurious flowers it houses.

This week we met with the shop manager, Robyn, to discuss all things floral…

Explain a day in the life of a Nikki Tibbles Wild at Heart florist.
Every day is different and that’s what keeps it so exciting! We start our day at the flower market, selecting beautiful blooms to fill our flower stand with. Throughout the day we lovingly create beautiful Nikki Tibbles Wild at Heart bouquets for all our customers. Meeting new customers and catching up with our regulars is the best part!

What attracted you to floristry?
I knew I could never sit at a desk, so searched for careers where I could be creative. I also love to chat, so the combination of being so creative with all our wonderful flowers and chatting to our customers has become the perfect mix!
What advice can you give to someone who would like to start a career in floristry?
You have to be dedicated and have a passion for flowers. I would always recommend anyone interested in pursuing a career in floristry to start with work experience first to see if you love it.

What are your all-time favourite flowers?
O’Hara and VIP roses are just beautiful! I actually have a favourite for every season, which is lovely as there is always a variety with the flowers you are working with.
Best flowers for gifting friends?
Always go with seasonal, you will have the best availability and longevity!
What are the most popular flowers right now?

Everyone is going crazy for peonies and sweet peas!
Any tips on how to display flowers within the home. Best vases to use etc?
If you buy a pre-made bouquet, don't cut the string as your florist will have made that bouquet to sit straight into the vase. Another tip, a flower stem should always touch the bottom of the vase, so measure your stems before you cut them. Bud vases can be a gorgeous alternative way to display a few stems, presented along a fireplace or dinner table.

Which flowers have the best scent?

Sweetpeas, Lilly of the Valley, Narcissi, O'Hara roses. So many!
