The unique building that is home to the first Nikki Tibble’s Wild at Heart shop was commissioned by the residents of Westbourne Grove back in 1993. Now one of the most well-known architectural land-marks in Notting Hill, the ‘Turquoise Island’ store, created by Piers Gough is renowned for its sharp angles, bright walls and ultimately the paradox of the dual usage of the building… a public toilets and striking florist.
After receiving a letter though the door of her small Southwark studio, inviting London based florists for an interview of tenancy for the Island, Nikki sent a beautiful arrangement to the address of the Councils office and was asked for an interview. At the interview Nikki was given the keys right there and then to what would be her first shop, the ‘Turquoise Island’. The shop, which has now achieved listed status, was really the start of Wild at Heart and despite having, the Flagship Pimlico shop and Liberty concession, the Island will always hold a special place for Nikki.
