Today we’re bringing you the story of Shadow. One of the Wild at Heart Foundation’s favourite success stories, he was was one of the original dogs from the charity’s Cyprus campaign and an incredibly nervous dog.

Shadow stayed away from people whenever he could and he would shake when he was touched. He wasn’t aggressive but he was very scared of humans. He was withdrawn, nervous, incapable of making eye contact with people and therefore his character failed to shine through.

The foundation worried that he would never be adopted, until a couple with an open mind asked if they could help a dog who really needed it most. Shadow immediately came to mind, and they loved him. A year later, he has been transformed; he trusts people, plays, runs, rolls over and even smiles. We think Shadow epitomises why people should adopt.

Over the weekend the clocks went forward making our days longer, evenings lighter and putting a real spring in our step! Our store fronts are literally bursting with colour as some of our favourite seasonal flowers fill the buckets, we’re spying cherry blossom and magnolia trees stretching across promising blue skies and we’re sending out lots of beautiful bouquets made up of tulips, ranunculus, camomile, sweet peas, roses and more. Spring is here. Hurrah!

This week at Wild at Heart HQ, we’re celebrating the beauty and simplicity of fresh green tones. From our Florist’s Favourite Bouquet which we felt with its many shades of green was just perfect for St Patrick’s Day to lovely jam jar arrangements for the Aerie American Eagle brunch at Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings it was a super green week.

Add to this a really fun floral masterclass at Liberty for Evian’s fruits and plants water launch and some beautiful pictures on Nikki’s Instagram of her lovely dog walks in the country, it felt very fresh and spring-like indeed.

It’s official, spring has finally sprung! Although it may still feel a little chilly outside, yesterday we officially entered spring when the sun crossed the celestial equator from south to north (at about 4.30am), making it spring in the northern hemisphere.

Not that we need any excuse to fill our homes with fresh flowers, but now is definitely the time to celebrate spring’s arrival with some beautiful arrangements. Whether you favour bright and bold ranunculus, soft pastel roses or fresh greens, you’ll discover lots of inspiration in our seasonal favourites collection.

We were delighted to be part of the Evian Fruits and Plants Launch which was celebrated with an exclusive evening held at the one and only Liberty London yesterday evening.

By combining their natural mineral water from the Alps with a unique pairing of fruit and delicate botanicals, Evian have concocted a number of new, fresh and well-balanced recipes including lemon and elderflower, grape and rose and raspberry and verbena. These new flavours were unveiled to a selection of special guests including Daisy Lowe, Amber Le Bon and Towie stars Arg and Lydia, who were also invited to attend a Wild at Heart masterclass.

Nikki and the team guided guests through an immersive floral experience, explaining the symbology of the ingredients in the new collection and using selected flowers and plants from the recipes to enable each guest to create their own beautiful bouquet to take home and enjoy.

With an exciting selection of savoury and sweet canapes on offer, including elderflower and lemon bavarois, guacamole and raspberry on crostini and almond rose cake, as well as a deliciously mouth-watering cocktail inspired by the evian fruit and plants collection, the evening proved to be a delight to all of the senses.

Evian plants and fruits will be available exclusively at Liberty from Wednesday 16th March for 3 weeks before rolling out to other retailers on 4th April.

It’s been a beautiful week both here at Wild at Heart HQ and in all our stores, as our florists were busy creating Mother’s Day and International Women’s Day bouquets. Alongside this, Nikki attended a fragrant launch for beauty brand, Fresh, where we filled a room with pale pink roses and also hosted a floral masterclass at Bicester Village, advising on perfect bridal bouquets and using jam jar arrangements on wedding tables. Another great week!

Two weeks ago Nikki met Jane from the blog British Beauty Blogger at the Fresh beauty launch. After being introduced it didn’t take long for the ladies to find some common ground; their shared love for dogs and animal welfare.

Sadly, having both recently lost dogs, the pair bonded over their losses and soon got to talking about Nikki’s Wild at Heart Foundation which funds and supports global animal welfare projects, particularly to reduce the number of stray dogs.

Jane left the launch and wrote a lovely article about their meet and the foundation itself. Head over to her blog to read the post.

You’ve surprised her with a beautiful bouquet of Wild at Heart flowers, so here are some ideas for how to spend the rest of the day this Mother’s Day.

The Orchid Festival at Kew Gardens
This year’s orchid festival at Kew Gardens has a carnival theme and celebrates all things Brazilian as the Princess of Wales Conservatory gets transformed into a tropical paradise. Admission is included with day entry to the gardens, so enjoy a gentle Sunday stroll around Kew surrounded by nature. Shop our orchids.

Vogue 100 Exhibition
For mums with a love of fashion, the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery is the perfect way to treat her. With over 280 prints from the Conde Nast archive, it is a celebration of the photography commissioned by Vogue since it was founded in 1936.

Breakfast at The Berners Tavern
The Berners Tavern in one of our favourite boutique hotels, The London Edition, is nestled in the heart of the west end, and is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. An incredible space, where the interior is as impressive as what’s on the plate, it’s a delicious start to the day.

Cinema Date – The Choice
An evening at the flicks is a great way to kick back. We’d recommend The Choice , a new film which charts the romantic journey of an unlikely couple (out this Friday). Also, you could be in with a chance of winning our Charming Lilac Bouquet and the film’s book and poster if you re-tweet this tweet.

Escape The City
Of course, you could make like Nikki, escape the city and head to the country for the weekend. Take a lovely long walk, enjoy the fresh air and the beauty of the countryside’s wild plants and flowers. It will leave you feeling refreshed and is the ideal way to spend a bit of time away from it all with your mum.
